What is the Best Retirement Strategy? Times are Changing

What is the Best Retirement Strategy?

Times are changing. The thought of retirement is changing for people. The Baby Boomer generation, of which I am a part, is a veryRetirement Sit on the Beach All Day? wide swath of the population and is seeing this transformation. What we believe is the best retirement strategy now is evolving away from how our parents saw it.

Even spending every moment away on the beach every day sipping margaritas is not enough satisfaction for the majority of people. It used to be that we pictured retirement as a way to just get off of the daily money hamster wheel of the American dream.  Then continue the dream with doing nothing but playing for your last 10-30 years of life.

Instead of all-of-the-sudden doing nothing – or hobbies as a reward for our hard working years – many of us are beginning to see just how much we are not ready for that!  We have more work or goals to accomplish that have been on our minds and in our hearts.

Maybe you’re ready to help make the world a better place or pass on what you know to the next generation.

Be 100% Debt Free

The best retirement strategy? Now, there’s certainly nothing wrong with aiming for riches and the no-stress lifestyle in retirement. As a matter of fact, I am a huge believer in aiming for just that — to be debt-free as you go into retirement.

There are multiple benefits to being debt-free. For one, you could do just exactly what I described previously: do exactly nothing all day except sip margaritas on the beach. But for many people and for myself as well, I want to be free to run my own business or to augment my income.

I certainly don’t want to have any payments of any kind!

At the very least, I plan on having total freedom in retirement and that freedom will come with a good amount of money in the bank. But you see to me, money is not everything!  There’s more to life than money, and I want to be able to give as much money away as I do spend.

I want to invest in something that is going to help make this planet a better place for my children to live.  Maybe I could invest in a business that has a great chance of making a difference in the lives of people.

Being a good steward of your money in retirement reminds me of a 1930s play called You Can’t Take it With You.  Just like the title suggests, you should plan on doing something very good with your money in retirement, ’cause the fact that you have a pile of it certainly isn’t going to gain you any brownie points when you die.

Yes, you can leave it to your heirs and change your family tree. But consider also changing the lives of people while you’re alive.

Be Free to Move on to the Next Task in Life

Whatever your dreams are, you can make them come true. You are completely in charge of your life and the outcome of it.

Maybe your dream as a kid was to be a rock star or a ballerina. Those goals didn’t come as true as you would have liked, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find more opportunities to play guitar or to go out and dance now that you have the chance.

But those are for the most part hobby ideas. Many of us are still intrigued about being in our own business and making a little extra money. We want to spread our wings and live our working life on our terms — part-time. We can still be with the grandkids and work writing articles, for example.

Be Free to Make Part-time Income

If you’re like me and will not sit and just do nothing, consider learning affiliate marketing (here’s a great Forbes article on how times are changing). The basic knowledge will take you very far in understanding the internet economy.

The internet today is very much like the old wild west of the U.S. There aren’t a ton of rules in place, but there is amazing opportunity for those who seek it.  You’ll find your share of bad people, but the vast majority of folks out there are good and helpful.

Learning affiliate marketing and basic website building is a freedom that will energize you!  It’s a window into a world of many possibilities — whether for hobby or for business.

You will learn how to create a following and how to follow your passions. And you will learn the very secret that in-itself is a long-term quest: how to use keywords in your writing and why they are REALLY important.

Most of all, you’ll be able to FINALLY find a way in which your passions can actually serve people and help them find exactly what they’re looking for!

Be Free to Live and Give Like No One Else

If you’d like to retire without any money and income stress, consider becoming debt-free and consider learning affiliate marketing. Not only are you going to stay as busy in retirement as you want, but you’ll also be able to help people and to change the world — even if it’s only helping out your neighbor down the block.

What is the best retirement strategy?  The one YOU create.
