What is the Best Free Website Builder? The One That Helps You Imagine

What is the Best Free Website Builder?

What is the best free website builder? One that helps you imagine and plan a niche website.  One that helps you create a website for an area of life that is centered exactly on what you are passionate about.

A niche can be called a section of the population that all center around the same passion. The term niche in this sense refers to a distinct market.

There are so very many website builders out there: the free website builders, the paid website builders. And among them are some really great products. You can make some dazzling websites from a number of players in the marketplace. There is no shortage of creative website building software in 2016, and you can create some very colorful and stylish websites from them. They are very flashy and beautiful.

But That’s Where They Stop

But that’s where they stop. They stop at building you a website, and as my grandma told me, “Pretty is as pretty does.”

No slight on these web masters. They’re being very helpful in allowing you to experience web site building in a very user-friendly manner, where this was a geek fest for us nerds in the not-so-distant past.

But they’re not giving you the rest of the story. I am here to offer you a way that you can SUCCEED with the website you want to build, and show you exactly HOW you can learn to get this done. See, there’s this stuff you’ve heard about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your website. This important ingredient is also only a part of the story.

The first part of the story is to understand and be in line with the passions of the online public.

And Here’s Where You Start

There are so many people online that have the same passion and they yearn to read, review and shop around that passion.  It’s very easy to see, when you think about it. What do you think is the gulf-of-ca-from-spacenumber of people (and there are an estimated 3.6 billion of them online as of 2016) that have the following types of passions for:

guitar lessons, dress making, archery, cooking, needle point, furniture remodeling, chess playing, disc golf, beauty aids, health coaching, RC cars, plant nursery, computer building, songwriting, electronics review, model railroad, investing, online affiliate marketing, singing, painting, reading, air ballooning, hiking, scrap booking, jewelry making, golfing, and…

…the many subdivisions of each of these?

You Can Be a Part of the Online Revolution

You can be right in the middle of the online revolution of serving people by providing information or products and services to those who are asking the search engines for a very particular set of information. To take part in this, you can create a website that does one thing: it is helpful to people.

Choose something that is ‘in your wheelhouse’ (baseball term for a batter swinging)!  Find an area that gives you that adrenaline rush or one that you have great knowledge around and share your heart and mind!

You might be using affiliate marketing links for direct products that you recommend, or you might have links to products at the sides of your website. There are many options.

Understand the philosophy of Wealthy Affiliate:

  1. Build a Niche Website
  2. Create Helpful and Relevant Content
  3. Get Traffic and Rankings
  4. Monetize Your Site

Build the house using the four pillars above, in that order.  Create a solid foundation on principles that are tried and tested.  You spend time on 1.  You spend time on 1 and 2, then you spend more time on 1, 2 and 3 and then you spend time on areas 1, 2, 3 and 4.  And you keep visiting these pillars until the site is as you like it.

This post is about areas 1 and 2.

Build a Niche Website

You’ll begin understanding the process of making money online by first understanding how to create the building blocks of your web presence.  It’s all a thought process that you need to grasp. You say to yourself, ‘ok, I need to build a website’.  Where can I build a free website? For some, this is a huge mystery.  Others with previous experience might be thinking further down the road.Wealthy Affiliate Secrets

Both sets of people, those who have experience and those who do not, need the peace of mind that you have the knowledge to use the tools to put your idea into action. You can do this!

No matter where you fall, you will have a massive amount of help in succeeding to build your websites.  Fear not, because you will have a completely awesome family backing you that you can ask questions of 24/7, plus the best step-by-step training will be at your fingertips.

You get two FREE websites to start your online business (using WA’s onsite website builder called SiteRubix, you’ll create websites with basic WordPress themes), access to their famous Getting Started training course (10 modules of posts and video instructions from Kyle, one of the owners, on the basics of the four pillars above).

The content of the training course is designed to spend the majority of time making sure you understand how to build your site and create it with the right tools for success.

But most importantly…

Get Search Engines to Find Your Site – Create Helpful and Relevant Content

The item that Kyle talks about the most in his training is this: creating helpful and relevant content is how you are connecting with the people that visit your site.  It is the reason WHY people are visiting your site.

Not only that, helpful and relevant content is exactly how the search engines are ranking your site. This is a highly important part of SEO.

In the past, internet marketers were able to game search engines with techniques such as back links (links to your site that sat on other sites).  But search engines are programmed to give back links a lower grade in favor of rewarding helpful and relevant content associated around the correct keywords.  And the correct usage of those keywords.

You make a good analogy in that those key points are like the pillars of a house. Without all of them the website won’t work.

Relevant and quality content is one of the most important parts of building a niche website. That’s what will keep people coming back to your site and sharing it to their friends and family.

      Thanks, Tanaquillo–

I really agree. I mean, not just because it’s my site but because the notion of great content is so foundational, coupled with seeing how this method of website building can serve people’s needs rather than bug them into liking what you offer.

  2. Lee

I really like the way you have wrote this article and pointed out the 4 key pillars of how easy it is to start an online business.

I find Posting relevant and engaging content regularly is one of the important pillars to help with my success.
And the good thing is you don’t need a masters degree in English to write content for your site.

    • Steve Cass

I know: no English major required! Even though I’m usually the type of writer that wants to ‘get it all right’, there’s just no substitute for being conversational with writing.

      Have a great day, Lee!

  3. Shashinth

    Hello Steve,

Nicely and simply explained. Yes those four steps are the key to online success. And as you said wealthy affiliate is a great training program for those who want to start an online business.

By the way I have a question. How to write good content? If you can, write a post on this please.

    Thank you,

    • Steve Cass

I would be glad to write a post on that, Sashinth! Thanks for reading this one.

  4. Winny

    Hey there!

You have a very nice clean and simple site. I like it a lot 🙂 It reminds me of apple. Elegant, but yet informative.

I myself am a member of Wealthy Affiliate and it has been my wisest choice so far 🙂 Everyone is helping each other out GENUINELY. There’s no “Go find it in google”. It is really incredible how helpful the people are. Like you have mentioned, we are a FAMILY.

I am looking forward to connecting with you within WA 🙂

    Until then, stay awesome!

    Keep it up!

    • Steve Cass

Winny, thank YOU, family member. I appreciate the time you took to view the site. I do like simple and elegant, and thanks for the compliment.

      Have a great day!

  5. Neil

Thanks a million for the website builder 🙂

I’ve been after the perfect website maker for weeks, that I nearly quit looking because I couldn’t find one that really suited my needs on the internet.

It’s great that I get 2 of these bad boys for free if I join Wealthy Affiliate, so I’m definitely getting a couple with SiteRubix.

    Thanks ever so much.

    • Steve Cass

Neil, that’s so awesome that you’ve found what you’re looking for. Very glad to be of assistance. Let me know if I can help answer any other questions. If I can’t, I’ll definitely point you in the right direction.

  6. Owain

I am interested in creating a website. A free option is certainly what I am after. This method looks like it will be quick and easy and I would like to know more.

With the keywords you said you have to use the correct ones. How do I do that? Is there a tool that is available? And if so will it be freely available?

    • Steve Cass

      Hi Owain–

Yes, using the correct keywords help google and other search engines see that you’re writing in a style to help people. How to actually do this well is a study in itself. That study is a part of Kyle’s training for you. But it’s also information that is widely available from other professionals within the WA community.

There are two keyword tools available to you with a starter WA membership:

      1) Google itself, which is available to everyone regardless if they are in the WA community. Just spend time with google and ask questions. You will see google populate below your typing with questions that people have or are currently asking. However you will begin getting an advanced learning, right away, regarding how to use the google search engine in this manner.

Your learning about using the google search engine gets vastly accelerated with premium WA membership.

      2) With the free WA membership, 30 searches are available to an advanced keyword research platform known as Jaaxy. Jaaxy is actually a separate business from WA, but owned by Kyle. This is an amazing research tool that helps you really dig into keywords and how they can be used.

This free 30 searches is available to all starter and premium members, but is a separate monthly / annual charge to use this tool.

To sum it up, you will have plenty of information to go on in order to begin understanding how to use keywords with a free membership. There is no doubt that you will stay busy and keep learning about the use of keywords without having a premium membership.

However, there is a massive improvement in the ability to search and utilize keywords with a premium membership. One of the benefits of premium membership is the use of the WA Keyword Tool (not to be confused with the Jaaxy keyword tool). The WA Keyword Tool is an amazing tool that I use and many, many other people use here at WA with much success. You could categorize it as a Jaaxy Lite. It is quite sufficient for many people.

I hope that I’ve helped you, Owain. Please ask any other questions about creating websites, domains, etc. that you might have.

  7. Andrew

There are many places that offer free subdomains but I think the SiteRubix platform is still the best. The reason is simple, you’re not restricted in terms of any commercial activity. You can use those free sites to learn and earn money as you go. You can’t do that with most of the other free websites.

    • Steve Cass

Hi Andrew, thanks for stopping by.

I think that you’re right. SiteRubix is the only place on the internet that has it all offered under one roof, and that’s a great selling point. You can’t get any training to understand the new found freedom at other places. You’re right about the restrictions at the other places, and this is a very good reason why to make the switch to SiteRubix.

Nowhere else on the internet is there the ability to see, first hand, how successful people are in creating the types of small business that they want to build, and I’m happy to see that you’ve discovered this.

I’ve had an idea for many months now regarding setting up a guitar players blog – problem is I have no real idea about building up websites and the tools that go with it!
The philosophy of Wealthy Affiliate you have included here seems to tick all the boxes for me – did they help you build up this site?

    • Steve Cass

      Hi Chris–

Thanks for reaching out. What WA helped me out with is to cover all of the technical bases: getting a domain name, getting the webhosting, giving me a complete secure environment for the webhosting (zero spammers).

And I’m not sure if you’re familiar with building WordPress websites, but they are the type that have plenty of tools there for you to build your basic site very fast. If you don’t know much about making websites, you can have one up and running really fast.

There might still be some frustrations, depending on your technical knowledge, but it’s all fairly user friendly these days.

And plenty of help within the community for you to ask questions if you need.

No, they didn’t help me build my site, but they gave all the above technical tools so I could easily do it.

But what they gave me that really makes a difference is training on how to create a website that really helps make you an authority in your chosen niche. In the training, Kyle takes you through how to set up your website so it begins to get ranked by the search engines, how to promote them via social media and how to create content that is pleasant to the reader so more eyeball don’t turn around and leave.

Hopefully I’ve answered your questions, but please give me more of them if I can help. There are plenty of people that do this that don’t have any experience in website building.

  9. Chris

I was about to give up looking for a free platform to build my website on because everything looked so modular in design – too drag and drop (if you catch my meaning!). These two free websites certainly look like they have more modern themes involved – did you use this system to build this site?

    • Steve Cass

      Hi Chris–

Yes, I did. And yes, there are so many themes from which to choose. It makes it difficult! Sometimes it’s best to just choose one just to get going and then spend more time searching for one that really speaks to you, then change to that theme.

Yes, I did use this system to build the site. This particular theme is one of the free ones available. Here’s a link to another post about using the builder: How to Create a Website for Free: A Live Demo.

The system is really straight forward, as you’ll see! And once you get to the point of spending time in building out what you like to see, you’ll find the WordPress Dashboard (the control panel in the left-hand margin) to be very helpful and intuitive.

I guess that ‘intuitive’ really depends on your understanding of websites. I come from the old school of building websites by using code, and so this user-friendly panel didn’t give me some of the ‘geek speak’ I was used to! So if you don’t have any experience creating websites, then this system is going to be a really great help in introducing you to the web creation world.

The WordPress system has been around for quite a few years, and so they’ve really had the opportunity to improve for a better and better user experience. Some of the other free ‘drag and drop’ systems that you see out there don’t allow for you to be too creative–you’re more-or-less stuck with what they offer. Whereas with WordPress, you can either change to another free layout, or go shopping for another that you really like.

And since WordPress has been around for a number of years, there are MANY website theme companies out there that make a ton of different types of themes to choose from. And many have a ‘drag and drop’ feature so you can truly get the best of both worlds.

You’re going to find that using this system is going to be really satisfying and that you’ll be able to build the site as you envision. As you go along, please get in touch with me for any questions. I’ll be here for you!

  10. Chris

It’s really interesting to see the subdivisions you have covered here – when you think about it there must be billions of opportunities to make money online with diverse products.
Do you feel that all items or products will have an affiliate program though? Won’t some be a little too diverse to be covered?
    Just a thought…

    • Steve Cass

      Hi Chris–

I think that with the rise of Amazon that almost any product on the face of the planet will have a link to it. So, Amazon may or may not be an answer for you as far as an affiliate program.

There is also Google AdSense, those ads you see along the sides of websites, that might work for you. There is also a Pay Per Click program you might be able to use. Not all of these are going to work for you, but one or more of them may.

There is a way. It’s going to take some thought and some research. The real bottom line has to be: how is the website that I am about to build SERVING my niche; how is my internet presence really serving people in presenting what they need and what they are searching for.

The most important aspect of building your website is to become an AUTHORITY within that niche. In other words, you want to place your self so you become the go-to person on the internet within this hobby or business.

Me personally, I am fighting an uphill battle with this at the moment. I’ve chosen to build this site devoted to creating wealth online by joining Wealthy Affiliate. There are many, many authority websites out there devoted to WA. But, the opportunity is here and it is still unique to me because of my chosen keyword strategies and my chosen supporting blog posts.

Just because the niche is competitive doesn’t mean that I can’t succeed at becoming an authority. There are billions of people on this planet that need the personal freedom that WA can provide! WA has an excellent affiliate program, which you can read more about here if you’re interested.

You may discover that some niches or product lines may be limited as to the products you can promote. But limited does not mean you can’t be successful. It all boils down to what you find that people are searching for and honoring their search requests.

      Have a great day!

I’m coming to the conclusion that Search Engine Optimization is extremely important for your website…and your choice of website builder can effect this!
I’m currently using a builder that has very low amounts of SEO parameters – would this free website builder you mention offer me more SEO options? Will my traffic expand?

    • Steve Cass

      Hi Chris–

Here’s the interesting thing: All of the aspects of Search Engine Optimization are coming back to the intended roots.

There is only one major SEO requirement for us today, and this has always been the most important: create relative content. Please take a look at this post of mine, How to Improve Your Search Engine Ranking, and remember this saying: CONTENT IS KING, much more than SEO corrections.

There are no other SEO parameters more important than this! It’s all about lyrical and relevant writing and It’s all about finding the correct keywords or keyword phrase and using them correctly in your posts. There are very few SEO tweaks needed in today’s internet writing.

However, what also helps are things like picture placement and white space (things all about the keeping the reader from wanting to leave your page and other user experience tweaks). But the nuts-and-bolts of SEO technical corrections are becoming a thing of the past. Here’s why:

All of the search engine updates that you’ve heard about in Google, Panda, for example, are designed to thwart those who would cheat search engines. One of the changes that came with Panda was the de-emphasis of back links (links that point to your site from all over the internet).

Google originally thought that your site was popular if your website link was all over the internet. But along came those that would spread your link far and wide for a price, and this no longer became true. Now, as of 2014, back links have very little or no effect on your rankings.

My point is that there is just no substitute for creating relevant content around keywords (check out my post Finding Keywords for Your Website – The Natural Way).

Thanks for checking in! All the best,
