Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam or What?

Go With Your Instincts, Not Hype

Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam? I see it as a great opportunity. I have a full review below for you to make up your mind, though.

First some words about internet marketing in general.

There are so many stories and companies out there about internet marketing this or that, complaints, reviews, success and blah, blah, blah.  It makes the head spin.   How many companies and methods of making cash and marketing philosophies are out there?

What is an internet marketing business?  There are as many methods of working affiliate marketing and marketing your own products as there are ways to actually generate cash and get wealthy.

There is also what I like to call the ‘mob mentality’ that is so very prevalent on the internet airways.  I also want to tell you about how responsible I am about my own success — even how I DEFINE success.

The Mob Mentality

First, I want to drive home my comment about how the ‘mob mentality’ rules the internet with an meme I saw on Google+ the other day:

This is our society

This is our society (at least the online version!!)  It’s all about complaining how others aren’t doing this or that.  At every turn, it seems that you read more about comments tearing down people rather than building them up.  This is, sadly, the majority of comments that you read.

People are always trying to point out how everyone else is stupid and aren’t spending any time supporting anyone because ‘it’s not cool’.  This sort of attitude leaves a person to conclude that everything on the internet it just one big ripoff.  Do you think that’s true?

This meme reminds us of something else I want to bring up in regard to MY success in internet marketing.  It also reminds me of how I want to encourage YOU to find — and define — what success means to you.  Don’t let the internet mob determine what success is or isn’t.

Even if the people posting with negative comments and views are somehow trying to be constructive, the seeds of the gray cloud over your thoughts are sewn. It’s tough to navigate through some of that to see what is real.

Even if you read sites about internet marketing and scams, there is sometimes way too much info to take in so you can make intelligent decisions.

So, I’ve laid it out there:

  • So many stories about internet marketing out there, blah, blah, blah
  • More than one way to make cash on the internet
  • The mob mentality is trying to tell you what to do — and they are slowing your progress (dare I say ‘slowing your life’?!)

Where does a person turn?

The Latest Scams on the Internet – Why Do We Fall for this Stuff?

I certainly don’t know all there is to know on the subject, but I’ve seen and read my fair share of schemes and methods and reviews.  Why do we fall for this stuff?  Because our natural instincts would have us dig in to find the next gold mine.  Yes, it can all be very confusing to know what is real, but here’s the bottom line:  learn to go with your instincts and not only with your emotion.

If you see and read a bunch of hype, you should know that you should run far, far away.  Either that, or you should investigate the truth.  The truth about who is telling the story, the truth about the actual possibilities AND THE TRUTH OF THE METHODS OF GAINING THIS SO-CALLED SUCCESS.

You really do need to do some research.  Research the person, the methods and the hype.  The brain loves hype.  Especially in this crazy world of the almighty dollar.

Find those offers with pure intentions and surround yourself people who really know the business.

More Than One Way to Make Cash on the Internet

This is a part of the problem.  There are some very legitimate ways to make cash, and there are some not-so-legitimate (or questionable methods based on morality) .  There will always be those who believe that the ends of gaining money justify any means of making money.  That’s up to you.

But I’m here to say that there is no need to sacrifice dignity nor morality to operate a legitimate online business.

There are as many methods to make a cash business on the internet as there are niches of interest.  People love to find and purchase the items that make them happy.  Find out how to best serve your customer, and you will find the ways of being in a good, sustainable, online business.

The Mob Mentality is Trying to Tell You What to Do

As is described by the meme above with the donkey, sometimes all comments from others are only designed to bring you down and to tell you that you are stupid.  I’m not sure why others do this, but I somehow suspect it’s mainly due to their own insecurity issues.

But, I don’t want to be unfair.  Some people really do care when they’re giving negative comments.  They’re either being realistic or just bombastic or whatever. Some people don’t mean harm by what they say.  There may be a constructive message in there for you, so listen and find the nugget of truth within it.

As far as the mob mentality of the hype of the internet marketing frenzy goes, you really need to develop some tough skin to wade through this pile and not get sucked into the wrong crowd!  There is a ton of learning for the person new to this.

The bottom line is that you need to educate yourself and find those who are not giving out all of the hype.  Have I found such a place?  Yes, and it’s an internet marketing system known as Wealthy Affiliate.

A Beautiful New Beginning

Affiliate Marketing by itself is only the beginning.  There are many different ways to begin learning about making extra (or primary) income from your website ventures.  Website marketing not only is the current reality, it is the future of income generation and human interaction.

What happens if you don’t have a passion?  Wealthy Affiliate will help you find it.  Or, they have a passion built in that they will teach you step-by-step how to build.  No passion necessary to get started, they’ve got a built-in winner for you.

There are many different ways to make money with a website, and Kyle will walk you through many of these methods.  But there are more ways to monetize a site that can be blogged about, so start thinking creatively!  It’s all about your passion and helping others and being natural throughout the process.

So, in a nutshell, you’ll be creating a niche website and sharing what you know in that website.  Then you’ll monetize the site by using affiliate marketing or Google Adsense or other advertisements, or by selling or promoting physical or digital products.

This is the starting line, and Kyle is going to walk you through, step-by-step on building your full-time internet business.  Nice!!

The Price

There are two levels of pricing:

Starter Membership, $0 (Join Here)
Premium Membership, $49 per month / $359 per year (Join Here)

For $0, you’d think that you’d only get a nickel tour, but that’s not the case.  When you join as a Starter member, you are going to have instant access to the Wealthy Affiliate community and all of the experts.  This includes access to live chat, all of the hundreds of training modules, access to three classrooms, networking, commenting, 2 free websites, access to the keyword tool, and literally so much more.

As I said before, there is absolutely nothing on the market that can compete with the Wealthy Affiliate starter membership.  Well maybe there’s one thing….

Wealthy Affiliate Premium

If you have the desire to build your web businesses the right way or you’d rather not do it at all, then this is what you’ve been waiting for.  The Premium membership was designed to take away all of the hosting, keyword search and other web related fees, paying for outside help and searching the internet tirelessly for answers on how to put all of your internet marketing efforts together.  It’s all here in one very nice package for a very, very nice price. Your search is over.

I guarantee that you will never be scammed in this business again.

The Verdict — Completely Legit

Plus Three Special Bonuses!

I have been very amazed at what I have found.  I joined Wealthy Affiliate in May of 2016, and now I am very much on the road to internet success!  I have three niche websites that are really beginning to take shape and generate organic traffic, and I’m excited about the future.  There are so many more stories like mine.

If you’re interested at all, you can’t go wrong with the $0 starting fee which gives you a huge chunk of access to the professionals, plus two free websites.  And Kyle WILL be in contact with you right away!!

Just be sure to set up your account information, and Kyle will personally be there to guide you along.  I’ve probably sent 5 private messages (Premium feature) to Kyle and he has happily helped me along my newbie way into learning what this is all about!

Kyle is there to help.  Period.  This is his, and his partner Carson’s, job.  They will actually interact with you!

Bonus #2 is a two-part bonus.  The first part of it is that you will PERSONALLY hear from the owners, Kyle and Carson when you become a Premium member. They will be contacting you and will let you know that they will be there for you in a very personal way.  You can contact these guys with any question at any time. There is no Ivory Tower at Wealthy Affiliate.

The second part of this bonus is a very wonderful and personal set of training directly from Kyle called Diamond Traffic (you will want that set of info, trust me on this).  He is going to give you insights from his years of experience online that are really going to accelerate your progress.  There is no other kind of mentorship service out there.

Bonus #3

I will be there for you right away, and on a regular basis checking in to see if I can be a help.  The reason I want to do this is so I can be helpful and point you in the direction of the information that you seek. I will be sending you small chunks of information periodically, and will be glad to take a look at your sites to give any feedback if you desire.

How I Define Success

Sometimes it’s difficult to describe the feeling of personal independence that you will have by becoming a member of Wealthy Affiliate. I believe that this is the greatest victory of all. Yes, you are setting yourself up to learn how to attract traffic in an organic way, and yes, you are setting yourself up for a source of income. And I hope your source of income lasts a very long time.

But the largest victory comes from your realization that you are in complete control of your destiny. With this method of creating your own business, you are achieving what very few people do in that you are creating a path where you are in complete control and that you have complete knowledge of how to get there.

Enjoy this journey!

Build the Solid Foundation

It literally comes down to these three areas:  build your website and learn how to fill it with relevant and helpful posts and pages, learn how to build traffic and search engine rankings and then learn how to monetize your site!

This is what I really like about WA: there is so much info targeted on the basic subjects that I am able to form a picture in my mind to see exactly how I can flourish.  After all, it’s up to ME whether or not I succeed online, not up to Wealthy Affiliate.  The fees that they charge pale in comparison to any scam out there that wants you to part with your big bucks.

It is very plain to see that this place is not a ripoff.

Like I read in a post somewhere, “How can you say it’s a ripoff when there are tens of thousands of people paying monthly and annual fees to them?”  Don’t let the fee thing stop you from checking them out.  You get to start and learn for free.  You could stay a free member for a long time if you’d like.

They provide the tools that I can use in order to succeed.  What more could I ask?  I get to go with my instincts, not just some hype.

Hi there, thanks for the great post here!

I agree strongly with you that Wealthy Affiliate is NOT some get-rich-quick scam. Many people are skeptical about programs like WA because there are too many bad apples on the market that aim to steal people’s hard earned money.

I am a member of WA and I would like to endorse what you are saying in your post here! WA is a real deal and it is a legitimate program that teaches people how to make a sustainable income online.

    Thanks for sharing this post!

I like your analogy of the mob mentality. It made me think of one of the gangsters from the 1930’s trying to get you to do something that you may not want to or may not be sure you want to do. Don’t you think sometimes they add all the hype and make it all confusing so that by the time you have finished reading you want to sign up even though you’re not sure what you are signing up for?If I was not already a WA member, this would make me want to look into it further. When I first started with WA, I had researched it from many different places. I could not find one thing negative about it and tried. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made and your review backs up everything that I have learned and seen at WA! Thanks for the awesome review!

Thanks so much. You really hit the nail on the head. It’s as if they want to talk you into doing something you don’t want to do. They want to make sure that you’re either confused or delirious because of their sugar-coating! I really tried to find a single negative thing about WA and couldn’t find one, either.

      Thanks for reading!

    Hi Steve

To answer your question about what I’ve heard about Wealthy Affiliate is that it’s a community of people that are more than willing to help other people start an online business selling affiliate products from merchants. I have been a member of WA for almost 2 years, and you are correct to say that there’s little to no (negative) hype with this community.

In regards to your second question of “internet marketing systems that offer hype out there” is if you have done a review of Jamie Lewis? I feel that he practices that “mob mentality” when people don’t buy his upsells. This tactic is almost similar to Empower Network where people are called “wussies” if no one buys their upsells too.

I look forward to hearing your response.

      Hi Armand–

No, I haven’t done a review of Jamie Lewis, but it doesn’t surprise me about the tactics used. It’s like some don’t care how they make money. As if the only way to make money is to go after suckers and the innocent without offering anything of real value. Empower Network actually uses the term ‘wussies’? Wow.

Thanks for reading and have a great night.

You’ve made remarkable progress given the fact that you’ve been at it for such a short time.
There is less content here than I have seen on other sites but I like the simplicity of it. It’s been my personal experience that Google likes lots of content but I think they rank quantity over quality sometimes.
I don’t think you can really grab someone’s attention if you’re too long winded.
You stress time honoured ethical business practices ie) you get paid by the value and service you supply to others.
These are principals I always try aspire to.

Jeff, yes your comments do help. Since I don’t have a lot of history at WA, I do see where many sites are long-winded. That really doesn’t appeal to me (and probably others), but maybe that isn’t the right approach, I don’t know. I still have much to learn as far as what is effective and what isn’t. After all, many of these long posts are from those who are very successful. Makes me wonder.

The mob mentality that you talk about makes so much sense. I’ve been searching the Internet for a little a long time now to find a good way to start making money.

Every time you find something there is always some negative comments about it.

But after you showed my wealthy affiliate I could not find a bad thing about it. And the fact that it was free to join made me very excited. Most people want you to pay before you try their system.

I have now been a part of wealthy affiliate for 5 days and I’ve already built my free website and I’m in the training now. Super excited.

When I had any trouble people helped my out directly.

There is no reason why you shouldn’t try it out like I did for free. I guarantee that you will be as hooked as I got.

Thanks for showing me wealthy affiliate and I can’t wait to see where this takes me.

Very good review I needed this. By far the best review on WA I’ve seen. Clean cut and it gets right to the point. I’ve been trying to find a good program to join for some time now. Excellent post Steve. I really liked your “mob mentality” example. Many times we all let our actions be decided by others’ judgement, and while getting advice on things and asking when we need help can be a great option and ability, sometimes we need to be firm about our decisions. At least that’s what I think though. About Wealthy Affiliate, I think it’s amazing!

Hi Mike. I find it amazing that all of us, all of us, tend to want to make decisions that are popular, that others approve of, rather than being a maverick and researching and make up our own mind through solid research. Even with the crowd at Wealthy Affiliate, which is an assemblage of some remarkable people, it still pays to see exactly how their successes can only help your own.

We gotta make up our own success! I mean, I realize that the smart play is to not reinvent the wheel–I get that, and that’s not what I’m talking about–I mean that we have to completely understand and be in charge and learn exactly how we intend to succeed. And then go do it. 🙂

Thanks much for you comment, and have a wonderful day.

    Hey Steve,

Great review and I strongly agree with what you had to say. I think from a lot of scams out there today people tend to be skeptical towards programs like Wealthy Affiliate. I really don’t think WA is for people looking to making quick sums of money but it is a genuine online platform to build a business.

I’m only relatively new to the affiliate marketing world and I can tell you have to put in a lot of work initially before you reap the rewards.

It has nothing to do with how the rest of the world sees me progressing and winning, it’s how I see me progressing and winning! This is definitely a legitimate platform from which to build a nice business.

I’m glad you stopped by to read, I appreciate that. All the best to you in your quest in building your online business.

I was actually surprised to see the title of this article so I just had to click on it – I’ve been a member of the Wealthy Affilaite for many years now and I’d never really heard a complaint!
I agree with your opinion and vision on mob mentality – it has actually stopped me from signing up with worthwhile causes before in the past…
Do you feel that certain people just can’t be pleased – more often than not because of their own failings with a system?

    • Reply

      Hi Chris–

I know! I have never heard a complaint. I decided to change the title of the page a while back. I guess that the original title of wealthy affiliate complaint is still in the WA comment system.

There are so many scandals and systems out there with promises that prey on our good nature to click and obey that it’s very easy to become jaded. And so I can understand how some people will be very hard pressed to believe anything that they read on the internet. I have just found that it is…my job, really…to write about this really wonderful and honest system that you and I have found with Wealthy Affiliate. The WA system is a perfect, in my mind, pay-it-forward system whereby the owner freely give of their wonderful and hard earned knowledge about internet market for a very small price. I say ‘pay-it-forward’ because they are giving out information FAR exceeding that which they most likely receive in return.

Since I’ll never be privy to the actual numbers, maybe what I’ll say is that I know that they have plowed so much of their profit from this venture back into the company to create a one-of-a-kind internet domains/hosting/coaching/expert advice platform that can be summed up by saying that while they’re making a good profit from it, they are more than giving exquisite value. They are giving value for something that is actually quite priceless: the ability for people to FINALLY discover how free they are to discover their own website business for very little or no investment.

It’s because the winds of building a business have changed. Before the internet, there was no way someone could go into business without a massive investment. That has drastically changed. Please check out more of what I mean by reading the post: How to Start a Free Home Based Business: The Myth and the Reality.

Thank again for checking in and reading,

There are so many scams online, it’s hard to know who to trust. Before I found Wealthy Affiliate, I fell for several scams. I think the most I lost at one time was $300.

Even if a make money online product is not a scam, most are created by people who don’t know what they’re doing.

I was so relieved when I stumbled onto Wealthy Affiliate. It felt like I had finally come home. I joined at the free starter membership level but soon upgraded to the paid level so I could get all the goodies.

It took four months of following the training before I made my first dollar. The income continued to increase. Since then I’ve added three more income streams.

I know what you mean. When looking around online for what’s real and what isn’t, it’s really difficult to tell. I’ve fallen for a few of them myself. Some people just know how to push the right buttons.

Me, too. For me, finding Wealthy Affiliate was something that after I researched I realized that it was so unique. WA really stood out to me as a source of truth. And why? Because it’s easy to see that Kyle simply is not lying. He is not – and they are not – just holding their hands out waiting for you to pull out your wallet.

Kyle models simple honesty with his entire approach. He talks only of how you are going to find success by helping others find what they’re looking for. It’s a true win-win, where as other offers online are sold as candy and syrup without the TRUE nature of service. The true honesty that is packaged by WA is worth it’s weight in gold.

Thanks for stopping by, Gary. I wrote another post you might be interested in 8 Ways to Avoid the Scams Online. I know that you are already have experience, but pass this post along if you know of others that might have interest. The bottom line with this article is that the best way to avoid the scams online is to learn how to spot the honest deal when you see it.

      Thanks,

I came across a paid google advert for this wealthy affiliate business the other day but I was still in two minds about it…which is why I’m reading your review!
I like the fact that there seems to be an active community willing to help there…but I still don’t understand what exactly I will get with the free membership they offer?

      Hi Chris–

I’m glad that you’re doing some research. I just love the active community as well, that’s a great bonus.

I am going to be very specific about what you receive. Forgive me if I get a bit long winded.

First off, here’s a link from one of the co-founders, Kyle, outlining the differences between the Starter and Premium memberships, with excellent clarity:

Premium Membership – In a League of it’s Own

Quick Highlights for the Starter Membership:

Online Entrepreneur Certification – Getting Started (Level 1) – Your Starting Point

Training Galore – 1000’s of additional training videos, blog posts and training tutorials

Two Free Websites – both websites hosted by SiteRubix forever

The Awesome Community – chat, post comments, mingle with successful entrepreneurs

Network – set up your profile and begin following members, get followed and find trainings

Create Blog Posts – connect to people through your writing

Affiliate Program – get revenue by sharing posts and training modules by using your own affiliate link

One thing to note is that since the creation of this article, the Premium membership price has changed to $49 per month, but the annual price of $359 remains the same.

A quick note to you is that during this time of year, WA has the Black Friday annual price of $299. This sale has been extended this year through December 2. If that link goes bad after December 2, you can read more about the WA Black Friday event at this link.

In addition (!), here’s a link to a post of mine, directly to the comment, that outlines your free keyword search abilities as a starter member.

Just know that the Premium Membership ‘swings the door wide open’!

Hopefully this is a help to you. Let me know if you need more info.

I’m glad I actually came across a article titled complaints when dealing with the wealthy affilaite – I have been recommended them several times but I’m still yet to take the plunge…
I have read your article but I’m still yet to see any real complaints…although I know there must be some out there!
Tell me what you feel is the one biggest downside to this education platform (in your book)?

      Hi Chris–

The entire ‘wealthy affiliate complaint’ thing is really interesting.

Before I joined WA, I (of course!) researched WA as deeply as I could. I think I ran across one complaint the entire time I was searching. And I’m thinking, “there’s no way one organization is going to please everyone. There has to be more complaints out there.” I searched but could find none.

So I figured one of three things: either WA was somehow burying all of the complaints out there, there actually were no or very little complaints out there (and maybe there were so many positive ones out that they buried the negative ones) or the people who didn’t find what they were looking for simply walked away without any complaints.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the latter idea had to ‘hold some water’. Certainly WA wasn’t going to be for everyone, yet somehow those who thought so weren’t giving negative reviews. This was telling me that WA wasn’t lying to everyone, and this was a very important point for me!

Then, I saw how much it all cost. It costs either zero dollars to start or for the entire enchilada be $299 per year. And I thought, “hmmm…people are claiming success for free. I wonder what the 300 a year will get me.”

All in all, it added up to being something that was legit. I saw that the ‘complaint’ posts were mainly telling people that there simply ARE NOT any complaints out there. Or very, very few. And so that’s how the original title of this post was also born.

But let’s be real. You know that WA isn’t for everyone. So do your research and understand exactly what is being offered. The good news is that what is being offered is very plain to see. There nothing hidden and absolutely zero up charges waiting for you…:-)

What do I feel is one of the biggest downsides to this educational platform? Ok, first, please realize that I am fairly new to internet marketing. Some of my negative opinions can stem from my misunderstandings. I can plainly see many people succeeding around me in the WA community. Yet I also know that there are many others who are not finding success, or some who are giving up.

Many, sadly, are giving up without giving it their best efforts. That has to be done first (in my book).

In a nutshell, I believe that WA should concentrate on instructing individuals in the ways of plans of action in the niche environment. What WA does right now, really well, is the technical nuts-and-bolts of making a niche website go and instructions on how to create a PPC campaigns.

The one thing that I think is a downside is that not enough effort is spent coaching individuals in regard to becoming niche experts. Now the entire network of WA marketing professionals is completely available and completely in place for all to utilize. But my thoughts are centered around having individual workshops available with individual mentors in regard to niche expertise. Now I know that seems impossible, but I still think that something like that is possible.

And I see WA reaching out right now addressing this very issue. They have launched a series of live events for members(or a member can watch them as a recording later on) outlining exact plans for all to succeed in 2017.

I think this is very exciting, and I am inviting you to join me right now, Chris in watching this additional training!

      Take care,

      Steve

Scam seems to be the most popular search word when it comes to looking for a way to make money online. It seems to be near impossible to find even one program that is legit that will help you change your life and the lives of many others. It took me years and it shouldn’t take that long for anyone so look into Wealthy Affiliate. You won’t make money overnight. Accept that, find a niche, help people get what they want, follow the training and work hard. The results from Wealthy Affiliate will provide the proof of success.

Totally agreed, Rob. There’s much more about true success that has everything to do with prosody. As the term prosody is used in songwriting, it has to do with how true the lyric and the music match or represent the other. Much like online success. When you find yourself in the true position of actually being creative with online efforts, you work hard at it and you do it for the sake of helping people find what they need. Then you have truly created prosody and you magnify your labor and see fruit.

There is nothing like Wealthy Affiliate out there that helps put all of this together for people. If you run in to anyone that needs a one-stop place for information, please send them to my page Wealthy Affiliate FAQs.

      Thanks for stopping by,

      Steve

All I ever see is the word scam on the internet. The reason is simple because there are so many scams and it’s hard to find something that is on the up and up.
Wealthy Affiliate gives you so much and for free. You cannot find a place where the training is free and the 800,000 community members are better at support.
I joined and within one week I went to premium because I knew I had found the golden nugget and at $49 a month there is unlimited everything!
    No scam, just real success!

You said it. You found the golden nugget. And that nugget is the wealth of information and successful people literally at your fingertips. The price is ridiculously cheap compared to what you get. We’ve all searched for people who really care about the success of others and have never found it until now!!

I’m glad you found it. All the best to your online business, and thanks for stopping by.

    Awesome review.

I have just signed up for WA 1-2 months ago and the amount of lessons you get and tools is just unreal for that money.
You get mentors who guide you to success.

If someone is thinking about starting an online business then do not hesitate. WA is for you. You will not regret it.

    Keep up the good work

Hi Steve, you are right about mob mentality. Many times people criticize other people without any valid reason.

I guess the same applies to online marketing.

About Wealthy Affiliate, I can say that it helped to understand how to get traffic by helping people and answer their questions.

    Thanks for sharing.

Yes, if given a stick and a direction, 98% of the online population (my probable wrong statistic) would follow another lemming over the edge of the cliff.

I’m glad you thought differently and were able to find Wealthy Affiliate. For sure, helping people and answering their questions is how to get traffic. Here is a related article I wrote on that called How to Improve Search Engine Ranking – The Best Kept Secret.

Enjoy and all the best today,
